Workshop 2023

On September 11, the workshop on Learning Analytics 2023 is planned as a half-day workshop taking place during the DELFI’23 and HDI’23 conferences in Aachen. The workshop is celebrating »Ten years of learning analytics in German-speaking space: Success, failure and lessons learned«. With this theme, we hope to learn from each other’s experiences and mistakes, and reflect on past and future challenges.

The program of the half-day workshop is now available: Workshop program 2023.
Contribution to the workshop part „Let’s fail together (better)“ (bit.ly/LA-DELFI23) are welcome. Please refer to the call for papers and participation for further details.

Workshop topic

Over the last few years, learning analytics (LA) research has established itself as an integral part of e-learning research, which is reflected in the success at the international conferences LAK and EDM. This has recently been fuelled, among other things, by the pandemic-related digitisation push in educational institutions, which increased the topics’ visibility and brought greater interest.

The Learning Analytics Workshop has been an integral part of the DELFI conference since its first introduction in 2013. Over the years, the workshop has increased its relevance with the involvement of different disciplines. In particular, the interdisciplinary approaches from pedagogy, educational sciences and psychology have recently shaped the research direction and the content of the workshop.

Thematically, this year’s workshop will reflect on the successes and failures of the German-speaking learning analytics community over the last 10 years and look ahead to the coming years. In terms of content, successful implementations and exciting current research topics will be discussed. At the same time, we will create opportunities to exchange experiences on less successful implementations that did not fully meet expectations, but contributed significantly to knowledge around how LA are designed, implemented and adopted. The insight into past and future challenges will provide interesting starting points for discussion, especially for the participants, and can promote new research ideas.

Goals of the workshop

  • Networking of the learning analytics community in the German-speaking countries to initiate research and joint projects as well as fostering network activities beyond the workshop
  • Presentation of current research projects and results
  • Enhancing the interdisciplinarity in the working group
  • Developing a joint outcome based on the workshop discussions (e.g., publication, digital learning resources, events)
