Call for Papers 2024

We are excited to announce the upcoming 11th Learning Analytics Workshop at the DELFI conference, which will focus on expanding the frontiers of educational research by exploring study paths and curriculum analytics. This workshop aims to bring together researchers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland to address the significant challenges and opportunities in the field of learning analytics.

We welcome contributions that describe successful implementations and exciting current research topics. The topics of interest are, but not limited to, the following:

  • Visual Learning Analytics and eXplainable Learning Analytics
  • Recommender and feedback systems
  • Multimodal learning analytics
  • Use of AI and learning analytics
  • Challenges from practice
  • Case studies, projects, and university-wide implementations
  • Scaling up (with) learning analytics
  • Ethical issues around the use of learning analytics as well as privacy and data protection
  • Datasets and tools valuable for learning analytics research

Regarding this year’s workshop focus, we particularly welcome submissions on the following topics:

  • Curriculum Analytics: Analysis of curriculum structures and their impact on study paths and student outcomes.
  • Study path exploration: Investigations into academic trajectories and their correlations with student diversity, disciplines, and outcome.
  • Strategies for gathering and managing administrative data: Research addressing the challenges and solutions related to data privacy regulations and institutional hurdles in administrative data.
  • Modeling and validation: Development and validation of models that predict educational success or failure across diverse educational settings.
  • Impact of educational policies: Studies on how educational policies (e.g. exam regulations, admission fees) affect student learning and academic performance.
  • Student demographics and success: Detailed analyses of how various student demographics navigate the educational landscape.
  • Datasets that contain information on academic progression, changes in educational policies, course offerings, course enrollments, student body composition, or other administrative data across institutions or over a longer period.
  • Data-supported tools that help students to organize and self-regulate their course enrolments and examinations throughout their studies.

Important dates

  • Paper submission deadline (6-8 pages, excl. references): June 14, 2024
  • Acceptance notifications: August 2, 2024
  • Camera-ready versions due: August 26, 2024
  • Workshop at DELFI’24 in Fulda: 9 September, 2024

Format, submission, publication

The submissions allow to present mature work, but also work-in-progress and preliminary results to the community. Submitted papers should be 6-8 pages long (excluding references). Papers can be submitted in English or German. Submissions will be peer-reviewed and, upon acceptance, published in the workshop proceedings.

Please use only the updated LNI LaTeX template, which is available both on Overleaf and as a CTAN template download.

The papers of the Learning Analytics Workshop will be published digitally together with the papers of the other DELFI workshops in the Workshop Proceedings via Koellen Verlag and the Digital Library of the Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. (German Informatics Society). Due to the publication guidelines, each paper must include an abstract in English.

Please submit your blinded submissions via email to lea@informatik.uni-mannheim.de

Open science statement

In line with the FAIR principles, we encourage all authors to make the research data available to reviewers and participants. If this is not feasible and legally permissible it should be stated in the paper.
For blinding research data for review, we recommend anonymous.4open.science and the Open Science Framework.
